Dennis Smith, a young FDNY firefighter wrote this book in 1973 to chronicle his experiences and those of his crew at the busiest engine house in the world at that time: Engine 82 in the South Bronx.

Simply put, it is the finest book ever written on the subject of firemen. It has never gone out of print since it was first published fifty years ago.
